KINGSTON, Jamaica — Scotiabank has pledged substantial support following the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa. The Scotiabank Foundation announced a donation of CAD$400,000 (about J$48 million) for relief and rebuilding efforts across Jamaica.
Additionally, the Foundation is committing J$100 million to aid recovery and bolster the island’s economic resilience. These funds will be channelled to reliable organisations actively assisting affected families and communities.
Scotia Group staff are organizing donations of care packages valued at nearly J$12 million for impacted areas. The bank will also match employee donations up to CAD$50,000 (J$6 million).
Overall, Scotiabank’s initial financial contribution to Jamaica’s recovery totals approximately J$165 million.
Audrey Tugwell Henry, President and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica, expressed her concern: “The devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa has been immense, with many of our clients, employees, and communities facing significant losses.”
