Starbucks’ latest holiday merchandise drop sparked an unexpected craze across its fanbase. The company released its limited-edition Bearista Cold Cup, a festive 20-ounce tumbler shaped like a bear, on November 6. The item sold out within hours of its debut.
The transparent cup features a straw and lid combination that, when assembled, makes the straw resemble Starbucks' signature green beanie perched on the bear’s head. The creative design quickly drew attention when Starbucks first revealed the Bearista on Instagram on November 5.
Fans rushed to stores hoping to grab the collectible, but many soon reported that it was sold out before they could purchase one. Some frustrated customers shared their experiences on social media, criticizing the apparent scarcity.
“Not cool marketing Starbucks to only have 1-2 at each store and allow your baristas to buy them before customers. You should have had additional stock for your baristas and at least 10-20 for each store,”
“Our local store received ONE,” another user wrote. “Why are you even marketing this?”
As online chatter grew, the company acknowledged the overwhelming demand and rapid sellouts, responding to fans’ concerns about limited availability. Starbucks has not confirmed whether more Bearista cups will be restocked during the holiday season.
