US President Donald Trump expressed interest in meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, despite prior delays. The possibility remains open following the postponement of the original plans.
Trump shared his intention during a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the White House. Their discussion included the potential summit, which had been put on hold last month when Russia declined a proposed ceasefire.
The initial meeting between Trump and Putin was scheduled for Budapest but was delayed after Russia rejected a ceasefire proposal aimed at easing tensions.
"All diplomatic negotiations are hard, but I expect a friendly and easy negotiation," said Viktor Orban to Hungarian state news media, referring to possible talks on sanctions exemptions for Russian oil companies.
The proposed Trump-Putin meeting in Budapest remains under consideration despite earlier setbacks, with hopeful diplomatic dialogue anticipated.
