Almost 50 children have been hospitalized in Budapest on suspicion of mass food poisoning, mostly from nurseries and schools in the 13th district. The Heim Pál National Paediatric Institute confirmed that the children were admitted with vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration, with several requiring intravenous treatment.
All affected children are currently in stable condition, and medical care continues uninterrupted. By Thursday afternoon and evening, multiple parents reported their children falling ill after consuming nursery or school lunches.
A report by Telex identified the Futár Street nursery in Budapest’s 13th district as one of the potentially affected institutions, though children from other districts have shown similar symptoms. One parent, Judit, shared that her son began vomiting during the night but recovered at home after fluid replacement, unlike several classmates who needed hospital care.
“Our doctors and nurses are doing everything to ensure the children recover as quickly as possible.”
The Heim Pál Hospital reassured parents that the situation remains under control. Experts emphasized the serious risk dehydration poses to young children, urging close attention and prompt treatment.
Health authorities are managing a significant food poisoning outbreak among children in Budapest, ensuring prompt medical care while investigating the source.
This outbreak highlights the critical need for vigilance regarding food safety in schools, as rapid response helps prevent more severe health consequences among children.
