Fans of Stranger Things were surprised with an early look at the upcoming fifth and final season. Netflix released the first five minutes, unveiling an unexpected starting point for the story.
The new season begins with a scene set during the events of season 1. On November 12, 1983 — six days after Will Byers originally disappeared — a young Will, played by a de-aged Noah Schnapp, is trapped in the Upside Down’s version of Castle Byers. Confused and terrified, 12-year-old Will tries to calm himself by singing “Should I Stay or Should I Go” by The Clash, a song his brother Jonathan introduced to him in the pilot episode.
Suddenly, a demogorgon crashes into Castle Byers. Will uses a hunting rifle to fend off the creature and attempts to escape by climbing a tree. The creature pursues him, forcing Will to fall unconscious.
The demogorgon drags Will to the Upside Down’s version of the Hawkins Library, where the villain Vecna, played by Jamie Campbell Bower, awaits him.
“You and I, we are going to do such beautiful things together, William,” Vecna says.
The preview hints at tying the new season closely to the series’ origins, weaving past and present seamlessly.
Author's summary: Netflix's early release of the first minutes of Stranger Things 5 offers a thrilling return to season 1’s timeline, deepening the mystery with Will’s chilling encounter with Vecna in the Upside Down.
