Novak Djokovic advanced to the Athens ATP final with a confident 6-3, 6-4 win over Yannick Hanfmann on Friday. He will face Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the championship match after Musetti prevailed over Sebastian Korda 6-0, 5-7, 7-5.
The 38-year-old Serbian completed the match in 79 minutes, maintaining strong focus against the German qualifier.
“I think it was the best tennis I’ve played this tournament,” Djokovic said. “Hanfmann is dangerous with his serve and overall power, so I had to stay really sharp.”
With this result, Djokovic broke his four-match semifinal losing streak. He had previously fallen in the semifinals at Roland Garros, Wimbledon, the US Open, and Shanghai. His last semifinal victory came in Geneva in May, where he went on to defeat Hubert Hurkacz for his 100th career singles title.
Only Roger Federer (103 titles) and Jimmy Connors (109) have won more men’s singles trophies.
The tournament in Athens replaced the short-lived Belgrade Open on this year's ATP calendar.
Djokovic delivered his top form in Athens, ending a series of semifinal defeats and reaching the final against Musetti with confident precision.
