Athlete of the Week: Hayden Emerson Leads LaGrange High Cheer Team

Poise, precision, and confidence shine whenever Hayden Emerson picks up her pom poms and takes the mat for the LaGrange High competition cheer team. As a senior captain, she not only leads the Grangers but also serves as a role model for the younger team members.

“She has the best attitude and does anything asked of her,” said Brandi Turner, LaGrange High’s head competition cheer coach. “She never complains and always gives 100%.”

This year, with only three seniors on the team, Emerson has embraced an even stronger leadership role. Her presence is commanding, and she values building connections with the underclassmen.

“It's been a lot of fun connecting with the freshmen and sophomores on the team,” Emerson said. “I also think our little senior group is nice because it’s easy for us to all agree on stuff.”

Cheering is more than a sport for Emerson—it’s a core part of her identity since elementary school. She finds it difficult to say goodbye to cheer, planning to continue tumbling classes after the season and try out for cheerleading in college.

“I still plan on taking tumbling classes once the season ends, and wherever I go to college, I plan on trying out for the cheerleading team there,” Emerson said.

When asked about her dream school, she answered promptly:

“The University of Georgia.”

Hayden Emerson has grown tremendously since she first began cheering, showcasing leadership and dedication throughout her high school career.
