Manager Confident Gate Can Turn Displays Into Wins

Player-manager Ben Greenhalgh believes Isthmian South East side Margate is ready to convert strong performances into more victories soon. Despite currently sitting ninth in the league, Margate has only lost three times this season, although they have drawn seven of their 15 league matches.

Last weekend, Margate, who were play-off semi-finalists last term, drew 2-2 at Crowborough. Greenhalgh expressed confidence in the team's progress, emphasizing their improved mentality and consistent performances.

“We’ve changed the mentality in the group because the performances are there. It’s no good being terrible and winning games at the start of the season because, after a while, those terrible performances will crop up again.”

He highlighted that although they have been playing well for nearly two months, the number of drawn games is holding them back.

“With a draw, you don’t lose and you can try to look at the positives that way. But the sad reality is a draw isn’t half as good as a win. We have got to get more three points over the next 15 games, but we are quite positive.”

In the match at Crowborough, Greenhalgh scored twice, including an 86th-minute goal to secure a point after Margate took an early lead and the hosts fought back to level the game.

Match Summary

Greenhalgh’s experience, including his time as an Inter Milan playmaker, adds value to Margate’s ambitions this season.

Author’s summary: Ben Greenhalgh is optimistic Margate’s solid performances will soon translate into more wins despite their current string of draws, driven by a renewed team mentality.
