Alex Vesia, pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is grieving the death of his infant daughter, Sterling Sol. She passed away just two days after it was announced he would not participate in the World Series.
“Our little angel we love you forever & you’re with us always,” Alex and his wife, Kayla, shared on Instagram. “Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we’re going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her.”
The Dodgers confirmed Vesia would be absent from the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays due to a “deeply personal family matter.” To honor Vesia, both teams wore the pitcher’s jersey number during their games.
The family also praised the hospital staff who cared for them during this tragic time, describing them as “truly so incredible.”
