Bryant Brown, a former Boundary County jail employee, faces a charge of aggravated battery for an incident in January 2023, though charges were only filed in September 2023.
The event involved an inmate who was under arrest on a misdemeanor warrant from Kootenai County by Bonners Ferry Police.
According to Sheriff's Detective Brandon Blackmore, "The man was intoxicated and verbally abusive and uncooperative to jail staff."
After a heated verbal exchange with Brown, the inmate entered his holding cell where the alleged assault occurred.
Blackmore testified that Brown "shoved the man against a glass window inside the cell and struck him with a fist, causing his head to hit a brick wall." The inmate tried to stop the blows by grabbing Brown’s arms but did not otherwise resist.
The affidavit also states that Brown "grabbed the man’s throat with both hands and slammed his head into the brick wall."
The Herald does not disclose victims’ names in criminal reports.
