Many celebrities achieved great success despite not completing high school. Jeremy Allen White, star of The Bear, recently shared a touching story about an old teacher who attended the NYC premiere of his new film, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.
“I wasn’t a good student because I didn’t go to school enough,” White admitted during the October 23 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, referring to his time at the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City, where he never graduated.
After the film screening, his teacher surprised him with a gift — his long-overdue high school diploma. “And I was like, ‘Ah, you don’t have to do this, this is crazy, what are you giving me a gift for?’ I opened it up, and it was my diploma. So… at 34 years old, I graduated high school!” he shared.
Nicole Kidman, who has won two Oscars, also left school before graduating. At 51, she expressed regret about dropping out. “I’m a high school dropout, which I’m not proud to say,” she told 60 Minutes. “I had some teachers that I still think of fondly and were amazing to me.” By the age of 15, she was focused on pursuing an acting career and moved to Los Angeles.
These stories highlight how determination and talent can overcome formal education barriers, leading to remarkable success despite not holding a high school diploma.
