Elizabeth Olsen has always appreciated Marvel fans, but becoming a Dodgers superfan helped her relate to the franchise’s admirers more deeply. Ahead of her new film Eternity, starring alongside Callum Turner and Miles Teller, Olsen appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night.
She was dressed in Dodgers gear to celebrate the team’s second consecutive World Series championship. Olsen admitted she felt “overwhelmed” during the interview because the Dodgers were guests on the same show, giving her a chance to meet them.
Olsen explained that she only recently became a Dodgers superfan, having doubled down on her support over the last eight years. This was a new experience for her, as the Dodgers were not a part of her childhood.
“In some ways, it’s been interesting because there are Marvel fans, and so I’m on the other end of that, right?” Olsen said. “And it wasn’t really until I started, like, doubling down every year on the Dodgers for the last eight years — because it’s kind of a new thing, it wasn’t my whole childhood — that I started to realize how much I am a fan of it.”
As fans of hers started gifting her Dodger-themed items at comic-cons, including a custom Scarlet Witch headpiece painted with Dodger spirit and a homemade Kike Hernandez t-shirt, Olsen’s connection to both fandoms grew stronger.
Jimmy Kimmel noted that Olsen’s experience gave her insight into what Marvel fans “were all screaming about.” She clarified her understanding came with affection and curiosity, not judgment.
“But like, with love and curiosity, not in a — I wasn’t judging it.”
This new perspective highlights how embracing another fandom can deepen empathy and appreciation for a different community.
Author’s summary: Elizabeth Olsen’s recent Dodgers fandom helped her truly understand Marvel fans by experiencing the joy and passion of being a devoted supporter herself.
