Thatcher Demko will not play for the Vancouver Canucks in their upcoming game on Saturday night after missing practice on Friday. This news disappointed many Canucks fans.
According to Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet 650, Demko will sit out the Canucks' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. After Friday's practice, head coach Adam Foote minimized concerns about Demko's absence:
“We had a conversation with him to take care of himself, and know, in a condensed schedule, when he feels he needs a little bit of time off, that’s what he’s doing.”
Demko started the season solidly with a 5-4 record and a .911 save percentage. He is currently ranked fifth in the NHL for goals saved above expected, based on MoneyPuck's analysis.
