At 33 years old, veteran winger Brendan Gallagher has found goal-scoring difficult this season after netting 21 goals last year. In the 2023–24 campaign, he ranked third on the Montreal Canadiens behind Cole Caufield with 37 goals and Nick Suzuki with 30.
Following a 5–4 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, Gallagher remained goalless through 13 games, compared to his five goals at the same point last season and seven after 15 games. Despite that, he has still contributed offensively with seven assists so far this year.
The discussion around his goal drought raises the question of how concerning it truly is for the team. On a Hockey Inside/Out bonus episode, The Gazette’s Stu Cowan delved into this topic alongside former Canadiens teammates and 1986 Stanley Cup champions Chris Nilan and Rick Green.
“Gallagher’s value often extends beyond the score sheet — his energy, leadership, and commitment set the tone for the team,” said one of the analysts.
The episode also teased two upcoming bonus discussions and encouraged fans to subscribe to the Hockey Inside/Out YouTube channel for continued coverage.
Though Gallagher’s goal-scoring has slowed, his leadership, grit, and playmaking remain integral to the Canadiens’ energy and identity on the ice.
