Toyota has officially introduced the ninth-generation Hilux, one of the most eagerly awaited vehicle announcements of the year. The launch took place in Thailand, a major hub for production and release of Toyota pickups.
This latest Hilux model arrives ten years after the previous version and continues its strong market presence. It remains the best-selling vehicle in South Africa, where it is assembled locally at Toyota’s Prospecton plant in Durban.
The new Hilux will be rolled out globally in 2026 with multiple configurations. Notably, Toyota introduces a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version alongside updated internal combustion engine (ICE) models. Engine options and availability will vary by country, with Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) yet to announce specific details.
The new Hilux keeps its classic boxy silhouette, a key element of its identity, but features a refreshed exterior. For ICE models, the redesigned honeycomb grille draws inspiration from the Corolla Cross. The front end includes slim LED headlights and LED daytime running lights, connected by a black horizontal bar bearing bold “Toyota” lettering instead of the traditional badge.
“Toyota has officially revealed the next-generation Hilux, confirming one of the most anticipated motoring announcements of the year.”
The updated styling reflects Toyota’s blend of ruggedness and modern design while maintaining the Hilux’s familiar character.
