The new Toyota Hilux has been unveiled, built on the outgoing platform but featuring updated styling, a refreshed interior, and an electric vehicle (EV) option. After several leaks and a short teaser campaign, the 9th-generation bakkie was officially introduced in Thailand, including its fully electric version, about 10 years after the previous model's launch.
The Hilux holds a special place in South Africa, having been sold there since 1969 and maintaining the title of the country's best-selling vehicle for over 50 years. It is also manufactured locally at Toyota SA Motors’ Prospecton plant in KwaZulu-Natal.
The latest Hilux retains the outgoing generation’s IMV platform but now includes new hydraulic engine mounts and shear-type cabin mounts designed to reduce vibrations and improve ride comfort. Some familiar exterior parts, such as the doors, roof, and load bay, seem to be carried over from the previous model.
