Sara Cox Begins Five-Marathon Challenge for Children in Need

Sara Cox from Little Lever, Bolton, is set to embark on a demanding challenge, running the equivalent of five marathons in five days. The BBC Radio 2 presenter will cover 135 miles across four counties to support Children in Need.

Preparation and Journey

After extensive training, Sara shared her excitement on Instagram:

“Welcome to the calm before the storm. I’m watching Countryfile, in Northumberland, having a lovely time. Tomorrow (Monday), I’ll start my epic Great Northern Marathon Challenge – 135 miles – from Kielder Forest all the way to Pudsey in Leeds. Thanks for all your messages on Instagram, they’ve given me such a boost.”

Challenge Details and Support

Sara will appear on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Scott Mills the morning she begins, with the run expected to begin at 8:15 AM. Despite feeling slightly unwell, she expressed determination:

“I’ll be up super early, my knees will be a-knocking but I am going to give it as much welly as I can despite having a slight lurgy. Let’s do this and raise loads of money for Children in Need.”

Following Established Paths

Her challenge echoes those completed by fellow Bolton Radio 2 hosts Paddy McGuinness and Vernon Kay, who previously raised millions of pounds running similar events for the charity.

Author's summary: Sara Cox launches an intense five-day marathon to support Children in Need, inspired by previous Radio 2 hosts, combining determination and charity spirit.
