Djeison Rafael, 21, has been charged with attempted murder following the stabbing of a woman in her 30s in Birmingham city centre. According to West Midlands Police, he also faces two counts of assault and possession of a bladed weapon.
The incident occurred on Smallbrook Queensway, just before 9 p.m. on Friday. The victim sustained a serious neck injury and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police stated that the suspect was wearing a grey tracksuit, black hat, trainers, and a rucksack at the time of the arrest. Officers have appealed to the public for any additional information related to the case.
“Police believe the assault was an unprovoked attack,” said Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood.
The attack took place only a few yards from Birmingham New Street station and marked the third stabbing reported in the city centre within a little over a month.
Djeison Rafael is expected to appear before Birmingham magistrates on Monday.
