The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has activated a 30-camera surveillance system across the city to enhance public safety and aid investigations.
Cameras have been strategically placed in various locations, including in front of long-term care facilities, major intersections, and high-traffic areas identified through collision and crime data.
"This will be an excellent asset for us — not only to gather information and locate missing individuals, but also to strengthen investigations across the community,"
said police chief Brent Duguay. The $150,000 project was funded through a provincial grant and the cameras are not live-monitored except in urgent situations.
The initiative aims to deter crime and assist investigations, providing valuable support to the police service.
