Sault Transit to improve service while maintaining costs with 'Sault Loops' system

Changes will be coming to Sault Transit in 2026 that are designed to improve stop frequency and reliability while maintaining existing costs.

The Sault Loop option, presented during public engagement sessions, received 72 per cent public support and 61 per cent operator preference.

The new Sault Loops system will increase the frequency of bus stop pick-ups, and create four two-directional routes which will allow users to cross over to shorten the time it takes to get to their destination and avoid a downtown connection.

The On-Demand weekend evening service will be axed and replaced with hourly fixed route service.

City council accepted staff’s six recommendations – and added one of their own – all to modernize the city’s public transit system.
