Medieval Tower Collapse in Rome
A medieval tower being reconstructed in central Rome, near the Colosseum, has collapsed, resulting in the death of one worker.
The 66-year-old Romanian worker was trapped under the rubble for almost 12 hours before being rescued. Unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital.
- The tower, Torre de Conti, is part of a 13th-century fortress built as the family residence of Pope Innocent III.
- The restoration was part of the European Union's Caput Mundi project, funded by the EU's economic recovery program.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry reported that another Romanian citizen was working at the collapsed tower.
