Authorities have declared a winter storm warning across three US states, forecasting up to 16 inches of snow and strong winds that could make travel hazardous.

Severe Weather in Alaska

The National Weather Service reported that Thompson Pass in Alaska may receive around nine inches of snow by Thursday evening.

"Strong winds reaching up to 40mph are expected to peak early Thursday afternoon, reducing visibility to around half a mile or less," said the NWS.

Officials cautioned residents to move carefully outdoors, as icy and slippery surfaces could lead to accidents.

Snowfall in Wyoming

The Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains in Wyoming are forecast to receive between four and eight inches of snow, while the highest Teton peaks could get up to a foot by Thursday afternoon. Winds may reach 40mph, creating risky driving conditions along the Teton and Togwotee passes.

Heavy Snow in Washington

In Washington State, areas of the Cascades—including Whatcom and Skagit counties and the Washington Pass—are expected to see as much as 16 inches of snow through Friday morning, most prominently above 4,000 feet.
