First Alert: Night Rain Tonight to Accumulating Snow This Weekend

A noticeable shift in the weather pattern will bring the season’s first surge of cold air to the Upper Peninsula. Multiple disturbances are expected to keep conditions active over the next few days.

Tonight and Friday

Light rain will arrive tonight, spreading west to east by early Friday morning. Scattered lake-effect rain showers will persist into midday, gradually turning into light snow showers along the northwest areas. Minor snow accumulation of up to half an inch is possible.

“A pattern shift brings the first blast of cold air this season.”

Friday will start with morning rain followed by scattered showers, then transition to scattered snow later in the day. Temperatures will range from around 40 degrees in the west to the upper 40s elsewhere.

Weekend Cold Blast

Colder air will settle in this weekend as a deep trough in the jet stream pushes cold Canadian air into the Upper Midwest. A low-pressure system accompanying this shift will bring the first measurable snow of the season on Sunday, mainly across the north and northwest wind belts.

“There’s a 20–50% probability for accumulating snow in the north-central U.P.”

Sunday has been declared a TV6 First Alert Weather Day due to expected slushy and slippery travel conditions. Light lake-effect snow showers will likely continue into Monday morning.
