A primary school in Douglas has been chosen to participate in a pioneering pilot project designed to transform classroom environments to better support children's wellbeing and learning.
Scoill Yn Jubilee Juniors will host the island’s first ‘adaptive classroom,’ a space that shifts away from traditional behavior-focused teaching methods towards fostering connection, compassion, and a sense of belonging among students.
The initiative involves close collaboration between pupils, parents, staff, education experts, and design consultants to redesign classroom spaces that effectively address the needs of every child.
The project integrates principles from interior design, psychology, and community wellbeing to build a more nurturing and inclusive educational setting.
The concept was developed by Werk Solutions, a UK-based interior design firm, which submitted the ‘adaptive classroom’ idea to the 2025 Isle of Man Innovation Challenge—an initiative promoting creative problem-solving across sectors.
Supported by Ellanstone Ltd, a local consultancy aiding innovators and entrepreneurs, Werk Solutions’ proposal was selected as a finalist.
“It gives us a unique opportunity to reimagine what a truly inclusive learning environment can be.”
