Justin Rose has decided to focus on competing in one more Ryder Cup before stepping into a captaincy position, his management team confirmed to Today's Golfer. This choice narrows the shortlist for Europe’s next captain to just two potential candidates.
During the Genesis Scottish Open in July, Rose expressed his enthusiasm for leading the European team in 2027 at Adare Manor, saying it would be a responsibility he would fully embrace. However, his recent success in winning the FedEx St Jude Championship—part of the PGA Tour season-ending playoffs—secured him an automatic spot on Luke Donald’s squad for Bethpage.
His impressive performance in New York, where he earned two points to reach a career total of 17.5, placing him in the all-time top ten, has reignited his desire to play again. According to The Telegraph’s James Corrigan, sources close to Rose confirmed his ambition to represent Europe for an eighth time.
Today's Golfer also spoke with Rose’s management, who reiterated that he intends to play another Ryder Cup but has not held any discussions with Ryder Cup Europe’s leadership yet. For now, he’s focusing on rest after competing in 20 tournaments over the past eight months.
“I’m not sure that’s a role we should be entertaining really,”
Rose stated during his interview at the Renaissance Club, clarifying that he has no interest in a player-captain role.
