Ceremonies honoring Remembrance Day are scheduled in several local cities to reflect on the sacrifices of those who served. On November 11, most federal services and federally regulated businesses, including banks and postal services, will be closed.
An event will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, November 7, at Battlefield House Museum and Park, 77 King St., to honor Indigenous veterans.
“This service acknowledges and commemorates the contributions made by Indigenous veterans in service to Turtle Island,” the City of Hamilton said in a news release.
The event at the Eagles Among Us Indigenous Monument will be followed by refreshments and snacks inspired by Indigenous flavors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.
The city’s garrison parade starts at 10:15 a.m. on November 9, with a service at 10:45 a.m. The parade includes Hamilton veterans, garrison units, and cadet corps, beginning at the John Foote V.C. No. and proceeding south to Gore Park on King Street East. The official service will be held at Gore Park’s Veteran’s Place.
