Men's Squad Perspective

James Christie, co-captain of the men's team, expressed excitement about returning to the National Games after around 12 years. He emphasized the importance of playing in front of the home crowd of friends and family.

"We haven't played [in the National Games] in 12 years, I think, or something like that, so it's hugely exciting, especially being in Hong Kong, playing in front of our friends and family. I think that's one huge motivation, as well as we don't have many tournaments during the year, so any tournament, we're always excited and raring to go."

Christie highlighted the fans as a vital source of motivation, referring to them as the team's "13th member," alongside the seven starting players and five substitutes.

"The fans keep us motivated and are essentially the team's '13th member' – after the seven in the starting lineup, and five substitutes."

He stressed that mutual support and trust among teammates are crucial for winning.

Summary

The SAR rugby squads are highly motivated to capitalize on home advantage, driven by fan support and teamwork, aiming to secure gold medals at the National Games.
