Prince Harry has issued an apology to Canada after facing criticism for wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers cap during a World Series game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
During Game 4 of the series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on 28 October, the Duke of Sussex was seen wearing the Dodgers hat. His wife, Meghan Markle, accompanied him at the game.
The 41-year-old prince received backlash for not showing support to the Toronto Blue Jays, the only Canadian team in Major League Baseball. Fans expressed disappointment because King Charles, Harry's father, is the head of state of Canada and other Commonwealth realms.
“Well, firstly, I would like to apologise to Canada for wearing it,” Prince Harry said in an interview with CTV News.
He added that he was “under duress” when wearing the hat and explained that his options were limited since he was invited to the Dodgers' box or dugout by the team's owner.
Prince Harry acknowledged the controversy with humor while reaffirming his affection for Canada and clarifying his limited choice during the event.
The incident highlights the sensitivity around national allegiance in sports and the challenges public figures face balancing personal actions with public expectations.
