Manchester United prospect James Overy has earned his first senior call-up to Australia's national team for upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Venezuela. Coach Tony Popovic also welcomes the return of midfielders Jackson Irvine and Riley McGree after injury absences.
Overy, a 17-year-old full back from Perth who joined United’s academy last year, has not yet played senior football for the Premier League side. He recently represented Australia at the Under-20 World Cup and is one of seven uncapped players named in the 26-man squad announced on Friday.
These players could make their international debuts in two friendlies next month: against Venezuela on November 14 in Houston and against World Cup-qualified Colombia on November 18 in New York.
Germany-based midfielder Jackson Irvine rejoins the national squad for the first time in eight months, having recovered from foot surgery and a recent quadriceps issue.
"Popovic looks to build depth in the second-last international window before the 2026 World Cup in North America."
Popovic called up young defender Overy and six other newcomers as Australia strengthens its squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
