Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was arrested on an attempted murder charge related to a shooting that occurred after a celebrity boxing event in Miami. The arrest was confirmed by Miami police on Thursday.
Brown, 37, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Dubai, according to Miami police spokesman Mike Vega. He was then flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is currently being held while awaiting extradition to Miami.
"He was flown to Essex County, New Jersey, where he is being held pending extradition to Miami," said Mike Vega, Miami police spokesman.
The reasons for Brown's initial transfer to New Jersey and the duration of his stay in Dubai remain unclear. However, Brown has posted multiple times on social media from Dubai over the past few months.
An arrest warrant related to the May 16 shooting states that Brown grabbed a handgun from a security staff member after the boxing match and fired two shots at a man with whom he had previously engaged in a physical altercation.
"According to an arrest warrant detailing the May 16 shooting, Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer after the boxing match and firing two shots at a man he had gotten into a fistfight with earlier."
