The Baltimore Orioles are addressing more than just their bullpen this offseason, focusing also on strengthening their outfield depth.
Last night, the Orioles agreed with veteran outfielder Leody Taveras on a one-year deal, pending a physical examination. The contract is valued at $2 million, according to Spotrac.
Leody Taveras, 27, is a switch-hitter who earned $4.75 million in 2024 while playing a total of 58 games for the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners. He batted .205/.226/.304 during that time. Seattle claimed him off waivers on May 6 but designated him for assignment a month later, after which he became a free agent in October.
Taveras debuted in the major leagues with the Rangers in 2020. Across parts of six seasons, he posted a batting line of .240/.291/.370. In 2024, he appeared in 151 games and successfully stole 23 bases out of 29 attempts.
In 2023, Taveras achieved a career-high with 14 home runs and 67 RBIs over 143 games. At Triple-A Tacoma this year, in 81 games, he recorded a .280/.358/.446 line, hitting 15 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, and stealing 27 bases in 28 attempts.
"Taveras earned a World Series ring with the Rangers in 2023."
The Orioles have secured a versatile outfielder with solid speed and power who brings experience and postseason success to their roster for 2025.
